Dr Brian Crosbie - How can the Research and Design Service help with funding applications?
Dr Brian Crosbie works at the NIHR Research Design Services (RDS) School of Medicine, Nottingham. Brian’s background is in sociology and qualitative health research. His previous research includes: patients’ experience in stroke rehabilitation, dementia research, health technology studies, and arts and health. Brian has an interests in theoretically informed methodologies including realist methodology, and implementation science. In his current role, Brian is the research impact lead for the RDS East Midlands.

Dr Nicola Clibbens providing insights into the funding process from the perspective of the applicant
Nicola is a lecturer in mental health in the school of healthcare at the university of Leeds. She is a mental health nurse with expertise in acute and crisis mental health. Nicola is currently leading realist research to explain what works for whom in community mental health crisis services.
Professor Jo Rycroft Malone, Dean of the Faculty of Health and Medicine at Lancaster University, offering tips and advice for applying for funding based on her extensive experience as an NIHR funding panel member
Jo is also the Programme Director and Funding Committee Chair of the National Institute for Health Research’s Health Services and Delivery Research (HS&DR) Programme, and is involved in a number of different NIHR initiatives, including recently in the UKRI/NIHR rapid response funding panel and long covid funding committee. She is an implementation researcher, including expertise in the use of realist methods. Jo has accumulated a body of research that resulted in her being awarded highly cited global researcher status by Thomson Reuters. Jo is a sub-panel member for unit of assessment 3 – allied health professions, dentistry, nursing and pharmacy for REF2021, and is an emeritus Senior Research Leader for Health and Care Research Wales.
