10. Panel on 'new directions: how can we circle the square?', Blackstock, Grundmann, Moriarty, Roach (Circling the Square I)
From Andrew Gibson on April 15th, 2015
The session includes discussion of misconceptions about scientists and journalists, poor practices at academic journals (and how post-publication peer review might help), the limits of ‘role hybrids’ such as science policy wonks, ideas for training future leaders in science policy and public decision-making, ‘blue sky’ vs policy-driven research, fiction as a way to communicate science, and the use of fiction by policymakers when ‘scenario planning’. The presentations finish with a fantastic short story about ‘impact’ written and read by Kate Roach.
