One in three people develop cancer; one in four people will die of it. Cancer has touched every family in the UK. It has a devastating impact on lives globally. Harnessing our natural immune defences has the potential to be the biggest advance in cancer treatment this century, but this has yet to be translated into successful treatments. There is an urgent need to understand how cancer defeats our immune defences and to translate these findings from the laboratory to the bedside.
