Thomas Lansdowne and Louis Adams (both BA (Hons) Economics with French) founded London Accent Ltd last summer while living and working in
Paris on their year abroad.
Finding that the translation
market currently consists of high-end agencies at one end of the scale, and
low-cost unreliable online platforms at the other, they developed a business plan
to exploit this gap in the market by using language students as translators,
selected from the best universities in the country, including Nottingham. This
model is unique and innovative, and allows them to offer affordable, quality
translations to clients in France, who are typically in the early stages of
development and looking to internationalise, but cannot afford the high-end
agencies and do not trust the online platforms. From the students’ side, working
with London Accent offers invaluable work experience in a sector with few opportunities,
has educational benefits as they improve their language skills, and a good wage.
