Taster Lecture on Probability with Peter Neal

This is a recording of one of the Maths Taster Sessions that we are running for anyone who wants to see what a maths lecture at university is like. These sessions should be particularly useful for students who are thinking of applying to study maths at university.

This session will give you a taste of what a university lecture on probability is like. We will consider a range of problems and the techniques used to solve them. In particular, we will look at expectation and conditional probability, and we will see how useful these are. You will have the opportunity to test your intuition on some probability questions and to vote on the answers.

Peter Neal is a Professor of Statistics at the University of Nottingham. He currently teaches the first-year maths module on Probability. His main research area is the (very topical) modelling of infectious disease spread. He has interests in developing mathematical models for describing disease dynamics, and in statistical inference techniques for fitting models to data.
