Dr Christina Lee, Associate Professor of Viking Studies in
the School of English, looks at how disability and disease were viewed by
Christians during the Middle Ages. She uses evidence that comes from
archaeology and from literary texts to reveal a rather surprising picture: the
disabled were cared for by society and there was an assumption that the prayers
