Conor Cunningham introduces one of the great movements in twentieth-century philosophy – phenomenology – which is playing an ever more significant role in theology today. He dos this by introducing the work of Edmund Husserl (1859-1938) whose work, usually seen in term of epistemology – can be understood as the desire to reach through the appearances in a on-going desire to come to the real which is beyond. As such his approach is like the search for Ultimate Reality which is the journey upon which theologians embark.
