The Book of Jonah, one of the shortest texts in the Bible,
is often seen as a simple short story – and it is this, but it is also
something more. The argument of Dr Doug Ingram in this video is that like all
great works of art, this books works on several levels and the deeper level is
to do with the listeners’ (the book is a story to be listened to) perceptions
of what sort of God is the God of Israel and whether or not God will behave
that they expect God. The Book’s message is that God surprises human
projections and expectations.
