In the second of their 2 part discussion, Professor John MIlbank and Dr Simon Oliver continue to look at the notion of 'the Gift'. Picking up with the idea that a purified gift, given one way, is contrasted by the mutual giving of gifts between 2 or more parties. This reciprocal gift giving could lead to the question that if Christ is offering himself as a Gift via the Eucharist, how do the followers of Christ receive the same gift? The answer is via the 'body and blood of Christ'. So is the idea of gift giving ingrained in the church itself and how does that influence our thinking of the church itself?
